Sentry Retractable Screen

Retractable and motorized solar screens in Kansas City start with the Sentry. As the local Sunesta dealer serving Kansas City homeowners, we measure, fabricate, and install the Sentry motorized vertical solar screen at widths up to 18' and drops up to 12', driven by a Somfy motor and paired to an RTS remote so a wall of shade drops or lifts at the push of a button.

This is a solar and wind screen, not an insect screen and not a structural enclosure: it cuts the low late-afternoon glare an overhead awning passes right under, blunts spring gusts across an open deck edge, and holds your view instead of walling it off. On a west-facing deck we often run a Sentry below a retractable awning on the same remote, and our guide to combining exterior sun shade on a west-facing KC deck walks through why the two products handle different sun angles.

The Sentry Retractable Screen

is a motorized vertical solar screen that can provide privacy, shade, protection from elements and also in some applications bug protection with the simple push of the button. With the Sentry you have full control of your outdoor area by retracting the system or extended it part way or fully to the ground to meet your specific needs at any given time. The Sentry is available in widths up to 18’ and heights up to 12’. Sunesta’s state of the art Retractable Sentry is available in a multitude of frame and fabric colors as well as different types of screens to accommodate the specific type of protections you are looking to achieve for your outdoor area while still maintaining your view. A Sentry screen most often pairs with an overhead awning, and our guide to combining exterior sun shade on a west-facing KC deck explains why a screen handles the low late-afternoon sun an awning passes right under.

The Sentry comes standard with a state of the art captured edge rail system to ensure a firm seal at the edge of the fabric. The fabric has a fine tooth zipper welded on each side which prevents the fabric from binding as the fabric goes up and down the rail system. The rail system has a floating track that keeps a tight seal to keep pests and the elements from entering the unit when it is down.

Frequently Asked Questions

How large can a Sentry screen be?

The Sentry is available in widths up to 18' and heights up to 12', and can be specified in a wide range of frame and fabric color combinations.

Are motorized solar screens insect screens?

No. The Sentry is a motorized vertical solar and wind screen, not an insect screen and not a structural enclosure. Its job is to cut low-angle afternoon glare, blunt wind across an open deck edge, and add privacy while keeping your view. If bug control is your main goal, that is a different product and we will tell you so before you order.

How wide can a Sentry motorized screen be?

A single Sentry motorized screen runs up to 18' wide and up to 12' tall, driven by a Somfy motor. Wider deck or porch openings are covered by running two or more screens side by side, and multiple screens can share one remote so a full run of shade drops together.

How is the Sentry screen controlled?

The Sentry is powered by a Somfy motor and paired to an RTS remote, so the screen extends part way, drops fully to the ground, or retracts at the push of a button. It can share a remote with a Sunesta retractable awning, letting one control run both the overhead shade and the vertical screen on the same deck.
